Nuevo Vallarta fishing adventures in October 2024
As we sail into October in Nuevo Vallarta, the fishing scene is nothing short of thrilling, with the rains beginning to subside and the sea alive with activity. ( Raniny season stops in one week) This is the time when offshore waters offer prime opportunities to hook the ocean’s giants—marlin, sailfish, tuna, and dorado. The final weeks of the rainy season bring a balance of beautiful weather and exceptional fishing that makes every outing unforgettable. I’ll make sure you have a fantastic fishing adventure with us.Capt.Pete
Each month, I field calls from eager anglers wondering about the conditions: Where are the fish biting? What’s the forecast? And most importantly, how plentiful will their haul be? October is a sweet spot, as the rains taper off, having worked their magic by cooling the waters and replenishing them with nutrients from the surrounding mountains. This natural cycle pulls fish closer to the coast, making for some of the best fishing grounds you’ll find all year. Despite weather reports forecasting rain, most days are filled with sunshine, and the late afternoon showers only add to the charm of the season.
What’s on the menu for October fishing? If you’re casting lines in the bay, expect a lively mix of species, from mahi-mahi (dorado) to skipjack, roosterfish, and snapper. And yes, sailfish are still lingering in the bay, drawn by the abundance of baitfish that thrive post-rainfall. These waters are buzzing with life, providing endless action for those chasing small-game fish.
Offshore fishing, however, is where October truly shines. The final months of the rainy season bring marlin, sailfish, large dorado, and the much-coveted yellowfin tuna into the spotlight. These oceanic titans are prowling the deeper waters, and there’s no telling what size marlin you’ll reel in during this peak season. For those chasing the big game, an 8- to 10-hour excursion offshore maximizes your chances. It’s not just about luck—the further you venture from shore, the more your odds increase of landing the fish of a lifetime.

Many anglers arrive in Nuevo Vallarta dreaming of catching their first marlin or sailfish, especially in these prime months. It’s essential to consult with local experts to select the right boat, crew, and schedule to ensure the best possible experience. Although shorter trips in the bay can be fruitful, nothing compares to the thrill of an all-day deep-sea adventure where your chances of hooking a monster fish soar.
Our team uses advanced tactics like tracking tidal movements, studying moon phases, and observing bait patterns to position our boats in the best possible spots. These intricate details, combined with years of expertise, elevate every trip into an unforgettable fishing adventure.

- Live bait has been extremely effective for targeting marlin, sailfish, and tuna.
- Trolling with lures in various colors has also produced great results for these pelagic species.
- For dorado, look for birds and debris floating on the surface, which often signal their presence or any debris that is large floating in the water will hold these fish.
- Sight-casting to roosterfish is an exhilarating experience, so keep your eyes peeled for tailing fish.
- Snapper can be caught using a variety of techniques, including live bait, artificial lures, and bottom fishing.
