There are several variables that will influence fish activity all year round. For example, the fish normally feed more at sunrise and sunset and sometimes even during a full moon when we have really high tides.

Some of the optimum times to have your lines in the water are an hour before low tide and a few hours after high tide. This is the same for the low tide when fishing here in Puerto Vallarta. One of the top factors in being able to find a fish is the right temperature of the water. This is an overlooked fact by many fishermen and captains alike. These pelagic fish are just like us and have a certain water temperature that they like to be in and also when they’re most active feeding. Another factor, of course, is water clarity. You’re not going to be catching too many sailfish when you have that off-colored water. This factor alone can hamper the fishing greatly and change your day from being fantastic to just an average day on the water.
